New Award

Hollie Allison, was awarded runner up for her podium presentation at the 3rd annual Matrix Biology Ireland 2016 meeting which took place at Hotel Meyrick, Galway this year. This annual conference promotes and consolidates scientific interest and expertise around extracellular matrix research in all its forms within Ireland. Hollie won runner up amongst over 20 PhD students who presented over the 3 day conference.

Hollie was also awarded best engineering talk at the 7th NUIG/UL postgraduate research day which took place at NUI Galway this year. The annual research day brings academics and researchers from colleges of Engineering and Informatics and college of Science at both NUI Galway and the University of Limerick, to showcase some of the cutting edge research being carried and to promote collaboration between the two universities.

Hollie is currently in the 2nd year of her PhD research under the supervision of Professor Laoise McNamara. Her research focusses on the changes in osteoblast induced osteoclast differentiation under mechanical loading and estrogen deficient conditions. In the hopes of finding an alternative treatment for post-menopausal osteoporosis. This research is funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI).
